3 ways to get your home ready for summer

May 15, 2022 | Gateway Blog

Enjoying long summer days can be relaxing, but it can also be a challenge if you do not adequately prepare your home to function as efficiently as possible during these hotter months. Here are three tips for getting your home ready for summer!

1.  Clean up your gardens

If you have not gotten around to weeding your garden and getting rid of the remnants of last year’s flowers to make room to plant new ones, now is the time to do so. A messy garden that has not been touched in months signals that your home is just emerging from being buried in snow. Taking the time to make it beautiful again is an important step in getting your home ready to entertain friends and family this summer.

2.  Test your summer equipment

Now is the best time to test the working condition of items such as your lawnmower, sprinkler, air conditioner, box fan, grill and other summer equipment. You don’t want to find out during the blazing heat of summer that they are no longer functioning. Testing these items early gives you plenty of time to repair or replace anything that may have reached the end of its life over the past several months.

3.  Seal air leaks

Regardless of how well your fans and air conditioner are working, they can only do so much if you lose cool air to leaks. Check your windows, doors and any other places where air might escape for problems and seal any leaks before the weather heats up. This is an important step in controlling energy costs while keeping your home cool.

Use these tips to get your home ready for both the excitement of spending time outdoors during summer and the demands of dealing with the hottest days.
